Study Abroad in Wellington: Cultural Travel

Wellington has a range of outdoor and cultural activities that are easily accessible to its residents. Students can hike or mountain bike through the hilly bush areas that surround the city, surf at the southern beaches, attend the sporting events at the Sports Stadium a short walk from the city center, or visit the many theaters and museums in the city. There is always something going on in Wellington, with a variety of festivals and sporting events visiting the city each year.

From Wellington students can access a diverse range of places on both the North and South Islands including:

  • South Island – three hours south by ferry
  • Skiing and volcano trekking – four hours north by car or bus
  • Wairarapa vineyards – one hour north by car or train/bus
  • Kapiti Coast – one hour north-west by car or train

Day visit to Wairarapa (Included in fee)

Saturday, July 31 or March 12 Students depart by train from Wellington and visit a vineyard in the Wairarapa region before moving on to visit Pukaha Mount Bruce taking in a tour with eel and kaka feeding. After lunch, students go to the Shear Discovery Center in Masterton. Return to Wellington by train.

Transportation and entrance fees are included.

3-day Rotorua Trip (Included in fee)

Friday, August 13 or April 1 Students leave Wellington for Rotorua. There will be plenty of photo opportunities when the bus stops at Huka Falls. Dinner and overnight in Rotorua.

Saturday, August 14 or April 2 After breakfast, students visit the Rotorua Agrodome for the Sheep Show and Farm Show. There are plenty of activities to choose. After lunch, students go to the Rotorua Museum before heading on to the Polynesian Spa.

Sunday, August 15 or April 3 After breakfast, students pick up a packed lunch before heading to the Lady Knox Geyser show. In the afternoon, the students visit the Wai-o-tapu part and return to Wellington.

Accommodation and entrances are included. Breakfast will be provided on Saturday and Sunday morning. Dinner will be provided on Friday and Saturday evening. Students will need to pay for their own lunch on Friday and Saturday. Lunch on Sunday is provided.
