Study Abroad in Cannes: Academics

Attendance

Attendance in class is mandatory and strictly enforced. Collège policy is that students who miss a day of class for any reason other than medical will lose full or partial credit.

Courses

Courses are held 15 hours per week, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Monday to Friday, for 4 or 6 weeks. One credit is equivalent to 15 hours of class. Students may also take an additional 6 hours of language instruction per week. Optional language courses are held in the afternoon.

Credit

Generally, U.S. colleges and universities give one credit for each week of intensive French language, plus extra credit for the afternoon language courses. It is at the discretion of each student’s college or university to decide how much credit to award.

Grades

No AIFS participant is permitted to take a course without receiving a letter grade. Pass/Fail grade options are not available.

Textbooks

Students should budget approximately 30 euros for required textbooks (refundable if books are returned).

Transcripts

The academic program for AIFS students is jointly organized by Chapman University in Orange, California, and the Collège. Credit is awarded to students on official transcripts issued to students’ home institutions by Chapman for a $100 fee (indicate on the application if desired). Chapman University is accredited by the Western States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. Students will also receive a transcript free of charge from the Collège International de Cannes.
