Study Abroad in London: Beyond the Classroom
Learning does not begin or end in the classroom. To help you get a true taste of British life the AIFS Resident Director organizes an active social and cultural program. Last year’s activities included:
- Jack the Ripper and Beatles walking tours
- Rugby and cricket matches
- Trip on the London Eye
- Free guided city tour–see Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey and the Tower of London
- Day trips to Stonehenge and Salisbury, Oxford, Cambridge and Brighton
- Museum visits
- Visit to Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, plus theater events such as The Lion King, Chicago and Macbeth in Regent’s Park outdoor theater
These events are subsidized from student fees so students typically pay only $25 for a day trip to Stonehenge and Salisbury (worth $60) or a West End theater ticket (worth up to $50).
Besides arranged activities, there are a wide range of events taking place in and around London during the summer, such as the Trooping of the Color, the Ascot races, Wimbledon tennis tournament, Henley Royal Regatta, rock concerts, theater in the parks and much more. Information on these events will be available through the Student Services office on-site.
