Fall and Spring 2011 - 2012 Deadlines

Applying

Applicants to AIFS College Division programs must:
  • Maintain the minimum GPA specified in the section describing the program of choice (usually 2.5). Students with slightly lower grade point averages may be considered if their academic references indicate they have potential to benefit from the program.
  • Have at least two years of successful work in the language if enrolling in an upper division foreign language program. For Spanish programs, students who have completed less than three semesters of college level Spanish but have taken Spanish in high school must send a copy of their high school transcript for review. Beginner language students are accepted in Cannes, Florence, Granada, Grenoble (selected programs only), Hyderabad, Paris, Prague, Rome, San José, St. Petersburg, Stellenbosch, Salamanca and Salzburg.
  • Be of good character and in good health.
  • Demonstrate the emotional and social maturity necessary to adjust to a foreign environment.
  • Be at least 17 years old by September 1, 2011 (18 for Florence and Rome and 20 for Stellenbosch Learning for Sustainable Community Engagement Program) if applying for the fall semester, be at least 17 years old by January 1, 2012 (18 for Florence and Rome and 20 for Stellenbosch Learning for Sustainable Community Engagement Program) if applying for the spring semester.

Application Materials

Students must submit the following documents:

  1. Completed application with a non-refundable application fee of $95.
  2. Official transcripts from current college. Freshmen must provide secondary school records.
  3. An essay describing reasons for wishing to study abroad.
  4. One academic reference (2 for Grenoble School of Management), preferably from a member of the student's major department. Applicants to the internship programs must also supply a reference from a previous employer and the internship questionnaire.
  5. Disciplinary Clearance Form

Candidates are usually notified of an admission decision within two weeks after AIFS receipt of a complete set of application documents. If you need assistance, contact an AIFS Admissions Officer. They can help you with advice on placement, course selection or academic approval.

Academic Year, Fall Quarter/Semester Application Deadlines

Applications and a non-refundable $95 application fee must be received by:

A non-refundable confirmation deposit of $750 is payable upon acceptance in order to reserve a space. For programs with spaces remaining, the deposit must be received no later than:
April 28

May 15
 Florence, Prague, Rome, and Salzburg
May 29
 Cannes, Granada, Grenoble, Limerick, London, Paris, Salamanca, San José and St. Petersburg
   
Balance of program fees must be received by:

Due to airline and accommodation cancellation penalties, AIFS cannot reserve space for a student until their confirmation deposit has been paid. Students are urged to apply and deposit early.

Spring semester deadlines

Applications and a non-refundable $95 application fee must be received by:
Rolling admissions on a space available basis
 All programs
 
A non-refundable confirmation deposit of $750 deposit is payable upon acceptance in order to reserve a space. For programs with spaces remaining, the deposit must be received no later than:
November 2
 Florence, Prague and Rome
November 15
 All other programs
   
Balance of program fees must be received by:
November 15

Scholarship Application Deadlines

Scholarship applications must be postmarked by the following deadlines:
October 1, 2010 Spring 2011 semester program and scholarship applications
March 1, 2011 Summer 2011 program and scholarship applications
April 15, 2011 Academic year 2011/12, Fall quarter/semester 2011 program and scholarship applications
September 15, 2011 Spring 2012 semester program and scholarship applications
