Study Abroad in Sydney & Fiji: Beyond the Classroom
Learning does not begin or end in the classroom. To help you get a true taste of local culture, a wealth of cultural activities and excursions are included in your program fee.
Famous for its palm-fringed white sandy beaches and clear azure seas, Fiji is paradise come true. Cultural roots and traditions are strong in Fiji and the population is an eclectic blend of indigenous Fijians and Indo-Fijians. English is the official language and visitors will find themselves greeted by a welcoming shout of “bula!”.
Located at the south-eastern corner of Fiji’s largest island, Viti Levu, Suva is Fiji’s capital city and the largest city in the South Pacific with a population of 170,000. Once a flourishing colonial center, sights include fine historic buildings, rusting shipwrecks on the reef, the old cemetery with its Chinese area and a lively fish market.
Explore Fiji on several included field trips to local attractions including:
- Beachcomber Island
- Hindu Temple
- Kula Bird Park
Sydney is the perfect starting point for an exploration of the wider reaches of Australia. In New South Wales you can find unspoiled and undeveloped beaches, spectacular mountain parks, open plains, lakes and rivers. On weekends you can take advantage of Australia’s outdoor lifestyle: cycling, hiking, rafting, horseback riding, rock climbing, scuba diving and bushwalking. During longer breaks, you can explore the lengths of the continent, its cosmopolitan cities or its wilderness.
In Sydney the Program Coordinator organizes a variety of activities which usually include:
- Sydney City Tour–Take a tour around the sights of Sydney with stunning views of the beaches and the city.
- Blue Mountains–Experience the highlights of Australia’s most visited World Heritage National Park with bushwalks and incredible views. Visit a wildlife park to see and touch our unique animals such as kangaroos and koalas.
- Australian Football Game–Watch a game of football and cheer for the local Sydney teams.
- Taronga Zoo–Visit Sydney’s largest zoo where you can see animals indigenous to Australia and around the world, while taking in amazing views of Sydney.
- Opera House–see a show at Australia’s iconic Opera House.
- Farewell Dinner–evening to celebrate all the good memories.
